Course Summary
This course will provide a broad overview of the concepts, fundamental ideas, vocabulary and literature base central to the study and development of secure information systems. It will introduce: 1) the notion of threat to an information system, technical and procedural approaches to mitigating the threat; 2) the technical concepts of secure system design and development; and 3) mechanisms for building security services and risk management. The purpose of this course is to provide students with a comprehensive overview of the subject area and to prepare students for the more advanced study in information assurance.
Course Curriculum
Blaine Burnham
- Blaine W. Burnham, Ph.D. has extensive experience with security systems at NSA, Los Alamos National Laboratory, Sandia National Laboratories, and at the Idaho National Laboratory.
- While at NSA, Dr. Burnham also helped develop the first cyber security graduate level programs in conjunction with major universities.
- Later, he developed and taught comprehensive Information Assurance Curricula at Georgia Tech, and at the University of Nebraska.
- Recently, as a Professor of Practice at the University of Southern California, he co-developed and taught major portions of a nine-course Masters of Cyber Security Engineering degree curriculum and is now teaching parts of that curriculum at NM Tech.
